My personal problem with DS3 is that Visceral seemed to forgot about building up tension and how to pace up the enemy encountersw. I don't really think they really were that scary, they just had a lot of atmosphere and the constant build up of tension helped to make a few and simple scary situations be a complete OHMYGODIGOTTARUN. It's awesome and I think it is a worthy sequel. Probably deadlines or something caught them, little details could've been tweaked to make the game more tense and fearful when you put your hands on the controller. But, they could've brushed up the horror a bit. I absolutely love the game and the franchise, it's my favorite. They did an AMAZING job with the mood and atmosphere, although, finding abandoned outposts and strengthening the survival factors of the game.

A noob to DS would think its scary, but veterans will realize its dumbed down condition. It'll bring jump-scares, sure, but it's not as 'scary' as its predecessors. Usually, instead of fearing what's in the next room, I'm adventurously inclined to go in to see what I can loot and test out my new weapon combo.

The only time I felt the horror was in the Archeology co-op mission. It didn't really bring these horror elements, but rather focused on making things more actiony. I then played DS1 and underestimated the atmospheric scare and thought it too was a true 'horror' game.ĭS3 was a lot of change for one sequel, and my definition of a 'scary' game is having an atmosphere, whether dependent on your characters inventory status or your environment, and the level of innocence/security that is broken when you play it (seeing a doctor have his jaws ripped open and puked into does break some innocence from the human mind,)

I first played Dead Space 2 not expecting the level of gore and disturbing events it had to offer.
